Summary: The Import Specialist will provide support to the Purchasing Manager, focusing primarily on the coordination of imported goods utilized in the production process.

General Responsibilities and Duties

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with trade agent to communicate needs, manage imports and track orders
  • Coordinate with freight forwarder for import shipment receiving matters
  • Communicate with customs broker to verify and confirm customs entry forms are accurate
  • Tracks and traces shipments with carriers & communicates discrepancies
  • Receive, verify, and file shipping documents provided from shipper for accuracy
  • Confirms and communicates all import ‘milestones’ to sales/marketing teams (e.g.: ETD, ETA, Arrival, Dispatch, Delivery, etc.)
  • Ensuring timely pick-up of cargo
  • Ensuring timely updates or shipment details and updating system timely to meet deadlines
  • Disseminate relevant Customs information to other departments and participate in major planning processes involving importation activities
  • Provide regular updated status information and/or reports
  • Update sales/marketing teams with container delivery status
  • Utilize Microsoft Office for communication and organization (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); advanced Excel skills a must
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

  • Previous working experience with an ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics AX/D365 is a plus)
  • Working knowledge of supply chain management preferred
  • Proven history of developing effective inventory management policies a plus
  • Experienced and confident negotiator
  • High level of personal integrity and able to maintain confidential information
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 2+ years of related Purchasing experience preferred

Qualifications

  • Read, write and comprehend the English language
  • Stand for long periods of time
  • Lift a maximum of 25 pounds
  • Working knowledge of math, numbers, etc.
  • Work at a pace consistent with changing business volume and demands
